YEAR OF THE DIVINE MERCY

November is the Month of the Holy Souls

Jesus said: “Speak to the world about my Mercy; let all mankind recognize My my unfathomable mercy.” Let us come to KNOW Christ, the Divine Mercy. Let us accept the Divine Mercy of Christ by conversion, and confess our sins. Let us, then, on our part, be merciful to others.

November brings us stark landscapes, cold winds, and the end of the Church‘s Liturgical Year, with the Feast of Christ The King. It also brings the beginning of the NEW Liturgical Year, with the holty and penetential season of Advent. In the US, November is the month when we all pause and give thanks on the great, unique American Holiday, THANKSGIVING. Remember, always and ever, to give thanks to the Almighty God…..for He has done great things for us!

HEADS UP! November 5, SATURDAY. “Dagilėlis”, an all-boys Youth Choir, will present a concert in our beautiful, acoustically wondrous church at 3:00 pm. Suggested admission is $20.00 for adults and $5.00 for young people under 16. After the concert, everyone is welcome to the Parish Lower Hall for refeshments and a reception for the choir members. (A donation of $5.00 is asked of all, to help defray the cost of the food.) The profits from this concert will go Maironis Lithuanian Saturday School. Please come to enjoy the music of an international award winning choir, and help raise funds for Maironis School! WHEN YOU GET HOME, SET BACK YOUR CLOCKS! DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS NOVEMBER 6!

All Souls Day will be commemorated in our parish on November 6 at the 10:00 AM Mass. We will honor the memory of the deceased of our parish with a Candle Procession at the Offertory, and at Kavine with a light lunch. Sunday, October 30, Monsignor Calise honored those buried from Annunciation at 12:30 pm Mass at Mt. Carmel. Bless him. May their Souls, and ALL the souls of our Faithful Departed rest in peace in the arms of Our Risen Savior!

The Chairs in our parish hardly ever get “cold”…….On October 16, the parish hosted the meeting of the Lithuanian Physicians Association. Members, including Dr. Vyte Sarapinas, enjoyed a luncheon and a lecture by a guest speaker. On October 23, the Lithuanian Folk Art Institute held its Annual Meeting in the Parish Lower Hall. The membership once again agreed to co-sponsor the annual Lithuanian Straw Ornament, “Verbos” and Easter Egg making workshops at Annunciation. In addition, the Institute is planning an ADULT Workshop for making more authentic straw ornaments, to be held at the Lithuanian Alliance of America building in Manhattan in December. Contact Laurynas Vismanas at LAUR...@AOL.COM for information, or to become a member, either as a “teacher” or “learner”!

There will be a SPECIAL COLLECTION for the US Bishops’ CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT on Sunday, November 20. This organization’s goal and slogan is ENDING POVERTY AND INJUSTICE IN THE U.S. Remember, Jesus said, that if you help the “Least of My Brethren”, you help Me……………….

On Sunday, November 27, we will all “Gather together to ask the Lord‘s Blessings“ at the Parish THANKSGIVING FEAST. Tickets are only $10 for a turkey, venison, and desros and kraut feast, with all the “trimmings“. (Children 2-12, only $2!). Tickets will be on sale at Kavine or via Pat Sidas at SID...@AOL.COM. Come, and let someone ELSE do the cooking for a day!

ALL the sacraments are celebrated at Annunciation Parish: The Eucharist is celebrated every Sunday. Eucharistic Minister Vytautas Cereska will bring the sacrament to those who cannot come to Mass. (646-246-8270) Father Volertas hears Confessions before Mass Sundays in Lithuanian and English EVERY Sunday. If he is not in the confessional, he will be waiting in the sacristy, bless him!

To arrange for Baptisms and Weddings, or for the Sacrament of the Sick, and “Last Rites”, just call Msgr. Calise (718-384-0223) or Fr. Volertas (718-326-2236). When there is a death in your family, be sure to specify ANNUNCIATION to the Funeral Director, so the funeral can be held in your own parish.

To arrange for RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION for children in preparation for First Penance/First Communion, Confirmation, or for parental instruction prior to the baptism of infants, contact Raimundas Šližys Lithuanian), or Rose Marie Walsh (718-384-0223, EXT 28, English). HOME STUDY opportunities are also available. Arrangements can be made for instruction for adults who wish to become Catholics, or for Baptized Catholics who have not received the sacraments of Penance, Eucharist, or Confirmation. Contact Raimundas Silzys or Pat Sidas any Sunday at Kavine. VAIKU LITURGJIA, Childrens’ Liturgy, in Lithuanian and English, takes place the FIRST SUNDAY of the month. For more information on this valuable parish program, please contact Dr. Milda Palubinskas. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Children who have received their First Holy Communion who want to serve as Acolytes (Altar servers) should contact Dr. Algis Lukoševičius, or Raimundas Šližys (at Kavine). Schedules for serving are flexible. The same flexible scheduling is available for ladies and gentlemen who would like to serve as Lectors at Mass, or who would like to help out as Ushers. Bill Kumet will show you the ropes and help you schedule your time to serve! Call him at 718-846-3829. To join Annunciation Parish Lithuanian Choir, please come to the Loft any Sunday to meet Organist and Choir Director Asta Barkauskas. The choir rehearses after Mass in the Lower Hall.

TEACHERS OF LIGHT provide FREE tutoring programs in any subject, at any grade level, including preparation for the SAT exams. Go to www.Teachersoflight.org, or call 347-342-8354 for information.

Maironis School News: Classes are available from preschool through grade 10. The School meets at 206 Skillman Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211. New students and adult learners are always welcome! For more information, contact school principal Fausta Sinkunas.

Lithuanian Scouts Association News: For more information about the Lithuanian Scouts Association, contact Tomas Lora or Aldute Belzer.

Sick call list: Elvira Vilineskis, Phyllis Macenas, Liuda Gudelis, Joe Levonas, and Anele Steponis are suffering the assaults of age. Gloria O’Brien, Edward Diskevich, Julia Cohen, and Jerry Cernauskas also need our prayers. Marie Strimaitis McCauley and Arturas Jautakas are both VERY sick……….but, Simon Ulcickas is BETTER!

KAVINE NEWS: If you want to provide something special at Kavine, please contact Kavine Committee chairman Pat Sidas so she can help you coordinate your donation. Thanks to the Zukas family, who provided a delicious spread on October 30.

Blessed candles are available at Kavine. Catholic families should have a blessed candle at home. There is no charge for them, but a donation is appreciated. God Bless the KAVINE SET-UP AND CLEAN-UP COMMITTEE. To join it — it is NOT hard work!—contact Vida Jankauskas or Pat Sidas. All you have to do is come half an hour early once in a while to set up the hall, and stay 15-20 minutes longer to clear the tables and “wash” the coffee and tea pots.

SPECIAL NOTE: Please be aware that the Guadalupe Committee and the Annunciation Spanish Affairs Committee also use the parish refrigerator in the Lower Hall. In order to avoid confusion, PLEASE LABEL anything you put into the refrigerator, so someone else does not inadvertently take or use it. Do not leave “leftovers” without making arrangements for them to be used, or labeling them as a donation to Kavine Committee. The refrigerator is not large, and it frequently is crammed with “science experiments” no one can identify! Pat, Clemente, and Leticia would appreciate your help in this matter VERY much!

CHRISTMAS CARDS! Beautiful cards, featuring photos of Annunciation Church decorated for Christmas, 20 to a package, with either Lithuanian or English text, will be available at Kavine starting November 6. See Joe Rudis or Pat Sidas to purchase them! Need a Christmas gift for someone who has EVERYTHING? Order blanks to subscribe to BRIDGES, the journal of the Lithuanian American Community, are available on the SHARE table, or contact www.lithuanian-american.org to order a subscription by mail!

APOLOGIES! Astra Bileris helped with the Mini_Lottery at the parish picnic. The food for the luncheon for Foreign Minister Azubalis was NOT provided by just the Brooklyn-Queens Chapter of the Lithuanian American Community! ALL the chapters and the NY District Council, under the leadership of Ramute Zukas, worked to provide food! MEA CULPA! While “we” are apologizing—Apologies to the Malinauskas family—it was Jonas Malinauskas the YOUNGER, not his late father, the barber, who died………May they both rest in peace.

Like to play CHESS? Kazys Butkus, Matas Slizys , Milda Stanislauskas, Paulius Sabalis, and Antanas Bublis and others await challengers Sundays at Kavine! For those who might like a less exotic challenge, the Kavine Committee has CHECKERS!

St. John’s University is providing FREE Speech and Hearing screenings! Help with hearing aids, too. Appointments are available until December 7. Call 718-990-6480 for more information.

May they rest in peace in the arms of the angels! Ricardas Legeckis, Jonas Kunca, Stanley Wainauski.
