On April 8 Annunciation celebrated its Titular Feast. Many thanks go to Father Robert Lloyd, who celebrated the Mass, Algis Lukosevicius, who organized the acolytes and the liturgical needs of the celebrant, acolytes Jonas Lukosevicius, Kenneth Pietrusiewicz and Martin Pietrusiewicz, Raimundas Slizys and Vida Penikas, who organized the participation of Lithuanian lectors and gift bearers, Leticia Serrano, who organized the participation of the Spanish lectors and gift bearers, and opened and closed the church, along with her husband; Antonio Arenas, who organized the Mariachi orchestra and singers, Eucharistic Ministers Vytautas Cereska and Lidia Santos, volunteer organist Saulius Janusas and volunteer Lithuanian Choir members Antanas Bublis, Vytautas Cereska, Grazina Janusas, Jean Pietrusiewicz, Pat Sidas, and Tracey Slizys, and Facilities Manager Richard Catalanotti.

A new member of the Mt. Carmel family helped Father Lloyd at this special Mass. The Reverend Mister John P. Orlandello, an ordained deacon, is newly assigned to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish! What a wonderful way for him to meet the Annunciation Family!

Did you enjoy the lovely sacred music that is now played on the BRAND NEW PA system in the church Sunday mornings? Aciu Algis Kulpa, Algis Lukosevicius, and Mindaugas Zukauskas! St. Cecelia, pray for us! Other work recently completed is the cleaning and polishing of the SANCTUARY LAMP. That red lamp, always shining where the Blessed Sacrament is, shows us where we direct our attention when we come into the church!

Speaking of renovations… ”The City” has renovated Sister Nicodema Park, on the triangle in front of our church. Sacristan Phil Caponegro and some garden-savvy parishioners plan to add some marigolds a bit later in the spring! (Sister Nicodema was a very long time teacher and principal at Annunciation School!)

Another renovation project will take place on Saturday, May 18. Under the direction of Algis Lukosevicius, Phil Caponegro and Gediminas Sprindys, repairs will be made to one of the Way Crosses in front of the church. The New York ATEITIS Chapter, adults and children, invites anyone who wants to help, too, to join them in helping with the work! For information contact Milda Palubinskas at mild...@yahoo.com .

Sick call list: Aukse Budreckas is quite ill in North Carolina. Karolis Dvorak, Elvira Vilineskis, Phyllis Macenas, Liuda Gudelis, and Joe Levonas, and are suffering the assaults of age. Antanas Vytuvis and Regina Gelzinis also need prayers, as do Helen Bagdonas and Dan Schmedlin.

Keep Antanas Garbauskas in your prayers… he is a civilian contractor in Afghanistan…

Maironis School Children celebrated all Mothers on Sunday, April 28, in the Mt/ Carmel Lower Hall, with a delightful program of verse and song. Cheryl Milukas directed the “Spectacle”, and Neringa Lauciskis and Jurate Zukauskas served as chairmen of the delicious luncheon. The Hall at Mt. Carmel was decorated with pretty paper flowers, and lovely flower arrangements were on every table. Salvijus Kungys led the Invocation, and Consul General Valdemaras Sarapinas nobly recited the beautiful poetry he has recited every time he has come to this event to honor his, and all Mothers!

Two children were baptized at Annunciation: Robertas Chotin, son of Danute and Peter, and Regina Saib, daughter of Courtney and Darius! Our parish grows!

Nine precious baptized children will receive their First Holy Communion on May 19 at the 10:00 am Mass: Osbert Kornelius Augulis,Son of Medėja Augulis and Gintaras Augulis, Nida Chacar-Palubinskaitė,Daughter of Milda and Rany Chacar-Palubinskai,Robertas Norvila Chotin, Son of Danutė Norvilaitė Chotin and Peter Chotin, Augusta Domingo, Daughter of Vaida Grigonytė and Roger Domingo, Sean Charles Heerey, Son of Christina Senken Heerey and Dr. Sean E. Heerey, Greta Marija Nemickaitė, Daughter of Gintarė Blažytė-Nemickienė, and Matas Nemickas, Ona Pranevičiūtė, Daughter of Sigita and Mindaugas Pranevičius, Jurgis Mykolas Schmedlen,Son of Nida Stankūnaitė Schmedlen and Daniel Schmedlen, Jr., and Julia Bridget Walsh, Daughter of Regina Senken Walsh and Kieran Walsh. They were taught by Dr. Milda Chacar-Palubinskas, and by their dedicated parents and grandparents under the guidance of Father Volertas, and with the blessing of Parish Administrator Monsignor Calise. Rejoice with them! Rejoice with our parish! Our Lady of the Annunciation, pray for them! Jesus, Sweet Savoir, Bless them and their families!

The parish will provide a GALA COMMUNION BREAKFAST for the children, their parents, and guests, and parishioners following the Mass. Helpers are needed Saturday afternoon to help prepare the hall and some of the food, and Sunday morning (9AM) for food preparation. Donations of Vinagretas (Misraine), fruit salad, or platters of cold sliced desros (Sausage) would be appreciated! Let Pat S. know at SID...@AOL.COM if you can help or contribute!

KAVINE NEWS: There is SERIOUS need for a few folk to volunteer to come a few minutes early to help spread the tablecloths and cut the cakes so that Pat Sidas, who regularly opens the hall and starts the coffee, can get to Mass on time. The work is easy, and folk always have fun. Just show up! ACIU! If you want to provide something special at Kavine, please contact Pat Sidas at SID...@SOL.COM so she can help you coordinate your donation. God Bless the KAVINE SET-UP AND CLEAN-UP COMMITTEE. To volunteer to help at Kavine, contact Vida Penikas or Pat Sidas. All you have to do is come half an hour early once in a while to set up the hall, or stay 15-20 minutes longer to clear the tables, fold the cloths, and “wash” the coffee and tea pots. A big ACIU to the Sandanavicius Family and the Janusas Family for splendid refreshments on April 7! On April 14 the Jankauskas- Gintautas- Arminas families put on an outstanding spread! We are a lucky parish!

Everyone was pleasantly surprised at the new paint job in the Parish Lower Hall!

Annunciation Parish was well represented at the recent spiritual conference, sponsored by Msgr. Edmundas Putrimas, of the International Lithuanian Apostolate, in Chicago. Dr. Algirdas Lukosevicius, Dr, Milda Palubinskas, and Paulius and Monica Sabalis represented both the Parish and the NY Chapter of Ateitis. They proudly shared the work of our parish and the NY Ateitis Chapter with representatives of other parishes from all over North America, and learned from other parishes about new and useful approaches to evangelizing the people and keeping our parish vital. Now LOTS OF PEOLPLE know that Annunciation Parish is alive and well and living at North Fifth and Havemeyer! Dr. Lukosevicius says that Annunciation’s acolyte “corps” is the envy of almost all the parishes in attendance! Special thanks go to Algis Lukosevicius for preparing a comprehensive notebook and supporting “slides” about oru parish that “blew everyone away”!

News from Maironis School: Saturday, May 18, Maironis School Teachers and Students will celebrate the conclusion of the academic year with the traditional end-of-classes awards ceremonies, and Graduation Ceremonies in our church. There will be a reception in the Parish Lower Hall following the ceremonies.

News from the Diocese of Brooklyn: Renewing our Faith through acts of Charity Atnaujanti musu tikejimas per labdaros darbu atlikima! the motto of this year’s appeal! Last year Annunciation gained almost $3,000 in extra income from the appeal. Our goal this year is to raise at least $3,879. We ALL need to make donation to this fund. EVERY donation is a valuable one to both Bishop DiMarzio and Annunciation. Fewer than 50 of us gave last year. If everyone who is a registered member of our parish gave at least $10, we would be at least half way to the goal. Please look for the envelopes in the church and hall, and do your part to support Annunciation AND Bishop DiMarzio and his work for the people of our Diocese of Brooklyn! Monies from this fund help support the Lithuanian Apostolate! Did you see the photo of Vida Jankauskas and Ramute Zukas showing Migration Office representative Msgr. Marino the delicious LITHUANIAN WEDDING CAKE they brought to the 2013 Migration Day Mass in THE TABLET?

Go to www.thetablet.org!

More news from the Diocese: Our parish administrator, Monsignor Calise, was recently installed as “Dean” of our local area “Deanery”. A dean’s job is to serve as the representative of Bishop DiMarzio in our district, Deanery B1, which includes Mt. Carmel and 8 other parishes in Williamsburg/Greenpoint. Congratulations, Monsignor! The deanery system formalizes the previous regional organization of the diocese, the Cluster System, with an appointed and installed Dean, and specific boundaries.
