Most everyone loves summer — the warm—even hot—weather, long days, flowers in the field, fresh fruits and vegetables with which to refresh body and soul. Vacation and Camp often take up a chunk of July…time to be free of the rules of work, maybe even the stricter winter rules of family life… time to cook out, time to dress casually, time to just BE. BE grateful to Almighty God for the happy things of summer, for the freedom to relax and the extra time to play. Just don’t forget, Jesus awaits you every Sunday in His Tabernacle Home…

Sunday June 3rd, His Excellency Bishop Gintaras Grusas, chaplain to the Lithuanian Army and Spiritual head of the Lithuanian Catholic Association “Ateitis”, visited Annunciation parish to celebrate Mass and take part in the Ateitis Group’s Annual Family Celebration Program. The parish choir, under the direction of Organist and Choir Director Asta Barkauskas, not only sang the Mass and hymns as usual, they also sang the traditional greeting to a Bishop, Ecce, Sacerdos, which they learned for the occasion. They also learned the Ateitis Himnas for the occasion. During the Mass, Bishop Grusas inducted several young people into the New York Ateitis Youth Chapter. After Mass, Bishop Grusas greeted parishioners and guests, and took part, with Ateitis members and Ateitis Youth, in the yearly NY Ateitis Family Celebration Program, in the Annunciation Parish Lower Hall. Many Annunciation parishioners joined the Ateininkiai for this special affair. Monsignor Calise even came and spoke a few words of welcome and praise for the event. Annunciation was also honored by the presence of retired priest, Father Haggerty, who grew up in the neighborhood and now lives at Mt. Carmel. After the brief program, lunch, featuring Lithuanian food prepared by The Avenue Bar and Grill, was served.

Many thanks go to Ateitis members Dr. Algis Lukosevicius, Dr. Milda Palubinskas, Monika Sabalis, and Mindaugas and Jurate Zukauskas for organizing this wonderful event. Parishioners who helped were Antanas Bublis, Onute Povilaitis, Irene and Joe Rudis, Pat Sidas, Matas Slizys, Raimundas Slizys, Tracey Slizys, and Milda Stanislauskas. Thanks also to Father Volertas and Bishop Grusas, who so reverently said and sang the Mass. For more information about this Catholic Action Group, please contact Dr. Milda Palubinskas at mild...@yahoo.com

The 2012 Bishop’s Appeal has begun. Annunciation’s “quota” is $3,611. Where does the money go? See above, or ask Fr. Volertas, who runs the Migration Office Lithuanian Apostolate, or ask the children in Religious Education programs. Last year only TWENTY SEVEN of us made donations. One very generous donation made making our parish quota possible. WE ALL have a responsibility to make a donation, no matter how small. “Where Charity and Love prevail, There God is ever found. Brought here together by God’s love, by love are we thus bound…” Envelopes are available on the Share table or in the church vestibule.

You can ask a Mass be said in Annunciation Church. Joe Rudis has the Mass Book Sundays after Mass in the Parish Hall. The usual stipend is $50.

Sick call list: Regina Balsys, Elvira Vilineskis, Phyllis Macenas, Liuda Gudelis, Joe Levonas, and Anele Steponis are suffering the assaults of age. Gloria O’Brien, Edward Diskevich, Antanas Vytuvis, and Jerry Cernauskas also need prayers. Virginia Scheibis has had health issues, too.

All you have to do is come half an hour early once in a while to set up the hall, and/or stay 15-20 minutes longer to clear the tables, fold the cloths, and “wash” the coffee and tea pots. IF ALL OF US CAME TO MASS JUST ONCE A MONTH,
OUR BEAUTIFUL CHURCH WOULD ALWAYS BE FULL!

REALLY BIG HEADS UP!

Annunciation was founded as a parish in 1863—150 years ago.

50 years later, in 1911, the Lithuanian people took over the

Parish from the German -speaking founders. Committees soon will be forming to plan celebrations for both events. The Lithuanian and Spanish Affairs Committees will need LOTS of help to create a Faith filled, gratitude filled, and joy filled two year celebration. COME, BE A PART OF IT!

MASS IS SAID AT 10:00 AM IN LITHUANIAN, AND AT 11:30 AM IN SPANISH
