Sunday, MAY 6 Lithuanian Mothers Day was celebrated in our parish. Maironis School held the Annual Mother’s Day Celebration at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Hall. The School’s Parents Committee put on a fine lunch, and precious entertainment was provided by the tallest and the smallest Maironis students, Thanks go to Parents, Faculty, Administration, Staff, and Children of Maironis School for making Mothers Day memorable in Annunciation Parish! Special thanks go to Dance Teacher Aldona Marijosius, who managed to pull together enough children to do the scheduled dances after illnesses caused several of the assigned dancers to be unable to come!

On May 20, Father Gediminas, Numgaudis, OFM, came “straight off the plane” practically, to Annunciation! He presented an afternoon program of meditation and instruction on the Sacrament of Baptism for a fine crowd of young families and young people that Sunday afternoon. Thank you, Father Gediminas, thank you Dr. Milda Palubinskaite for organizing the afternoon, and thank you, Kungys family, for hosting Father Gediminas!

Gloria O’Brien, Edward Diskevich, Antanas Vytuvis, and Jerry Cernauskas also need prayers. Virginia Scheibis has had health issues, too. Tadas Alinskas is recovering from a mild heart attack. Daughter Audrey would like to engage a Lithuanian speaking person to visit with him. Contact her if you know someone who could help: GENT...@HOTMAIL.COM

A BIG Annunciation ACIU for all her work in producing Annunciation Weekly Bulletin goes to Vida Jankauskas, who is “temporarily” relinquishing her duties as BULLETIN Editor to Grazina Janusas. Of course, a second BIG ANNUNICATION ACIU goes to Grazina for consenting to do the bulletin. News items for the bulletin need to be in Grazina’s hands WEDNESDAY of each week. Contact her at GRAZ...@YAHOO.COM. 516-676-6496.

We will have the honor of having Valdemaras Sarapinas – Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania in NY, introduce this year’s main speaker, Rita Kazragiene – Minister Counselor at Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations. Light refreshments will be served. For more information please contact NYLB District Council President Ramute Zukas at ramu...@hotmail.com

Are you unable to get to Mass? Know someone else who can’t? Eucharistic Minister Vytautas Cereska will bring the Body and Blood of Christ to you. Call Vytautas at 646-246-8270. Father Volertas (718-326-2236) and Msgr. Calise (718-384-0223) are available to bring the Sacraments and anoint the sick and frail.

KAVINE NEWS: If you want to provide something special at Kavine, please contact Pat Sidas at SID...@SOL.COM so she can help you coordinate your donation. God Bless the KAVINE SET-UP AND CLEAN-UP COMMITTEE. To volunteer to help at Kavine, contact Vida Penikas or Pat Sidas. All you have to do is come half an hour early once in a while to set up the hall, and/or stay 15-20 minutes longer to clear the tables, fold the cloths, and “wash” the coffee and tea pots. THANK YOU to Virginia Scheibis, who now helps both BEFORE and AFTER Mass, and to Cecile Murgatroyd, who brought cake when she was “in town”!

Cecile has found a web site, through FACEBOOK, that is called NORTHSIDE BROOKLYN. For those of you who miss Sarah Newman’s COMMENTWILLIAMSBURG, try NORTHSIDE BROOKLYN via Facebook! Thanks, Cecile!

Speaking of being in town, Linda Mockapetris Greene and her dear George were “in town” recently: ALL THE WAY FROM BUSHKILL, PA! Linda and George not only brought their joyful, happy faces to Kavine, they also brought fabulous homemade cake, provided the coffee, and made a donation of cake plates and forks! Annunciation is proud of Linda and George, who are VERY, VERY active in their local parish and the food pantry in Bushkill.

NORTHSIDE SENIOR CENTER, 179 North 6th (Bet. Bedford and Driggs Aves.) is open to ALL SENIORS! They have “Morning Coffee Break”, lunch, recreational, educational, and social activities, a COMPUTER LAB, and Social Services information available free, or for VERY LITTLE charge. Check this Catholic Charities Center OUT! Remember the Bishop’s Appeal? Well, here’s where some of the money goes! (718-387-2316.) THEY EVEN HAVE TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE!

The 2012 Bishop’s Appeal has begun. Annunciation’s “quota” is $3,611. Where does the money go? See above, or ask Fr. Volertas, who runs the Migration Office Lithuanian Apostolate, or ask the children in Religious Education programs. Last year only TWENTY SEVEN of us made donations, one a very generous donation that made making our parish quota possible. WE ALL have a responsibility to make a donation, no matter how small. “Where Charity and Love prevail, There God is ever found. Brought here together by God’s love, by love are we thus bound…” Envelopes are available on the Share table or in the church vestibule.

CLERGY IN THE NEWS! Did you know that Father Podziunas, Franciscan Provincial in faraway Wisconsin, is a “grandson” of Annunciation? His precious Mom was from our parish! He was “back East” for the Lithuanian Catholic Religious Aid 50th Anniversary festivities!

Two priests of our diocese will soon be ordained auxiliary bishops……….Monsignors Raymond Chapetto and Paul Sanchez. God Bless and Keep them!

Father Daniel Staniskis, who served our parish as an assistant to Father Pakalniskis, will take up a new assignment in his New Jersey Diocese, at Our Lady of the Magnificat (Our Lady of the Annunciation by any other name!) in Kinnelon on June 29. Father assures everyone he still plans to serve the New Jersey Lithuanian Community at Saint Peter and Paul Parish!

Parish Pastoral Council News: At the May meeting, Monsignor Calise and all the Council members thanked retiring Annunciation Parish Council member, Vida Jankauskas, for her dedicated work in representing Annunciation Parish on the Joint Council.

MAIRONIS SCHOOL NEWS: Saturday, May 19, FIVE students graduated! Graduation for Matas Angelaidis Antanina Belzer, Lina Mickus, Auste Norvila, and Matas Slizys was held in Annunciation Church, with a reception in the Parish Lower Hall. CONGRATULATIONS!

The Lithuanian version is in the same book, and is titled “Veiklos Fragmentai”. The price is $25.00 plus shipping. The book can be purchased at LCRA -* 64-25 Perry Ave., Maspeth New York. E-mail l...@earthlink.net tel: 718-326-5202.

May he rest in peace in the arms of the angels! Arturas Jautakas, after much suffering, has gone home to The Father and St. Cecelia. Loneda. Loris and Adris need our prayers, too. Algis Sruoginis, husband of Aldona Simutis Sruoginis, father of Laima, Andrius, Kristina nad Vincas, has died. Two of God’s Chosen have left us this month: Passionist Father Clement Kasinskas, renowned preacher of Lithuanian and English retreats has died at age 82. (Aciu, Father Yenkevich, for this sad news…) Sister Georgina Altamore, OP, who taught at Annunciation School in 1968-69, has died………….at age 100.

ANNUNCIATION IS PROUD OF: Organist Virginijus Barkauskas (and Maestra Asta, too!) recently returned from his triumphant visit to Lithuania! He was invited by the “Lietuvos Muzikos Remimo Fondo” to participate in the “Sugrizimai” festival. This year marked the 13th season of the event in which Lithuanian heritage musicians from all over the world participated. The first concert was performed at St. Michael the Archangel’s Pro-Cathedral in Marijampole on May 13th, and the second, which ended this season’s “Sugrizimai” festival, was held at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall in Vilnius on May 15th. Virginjus performed solo pieces for the organ and compositions for the oboe and for voice. He was accompanied by renowned oboist Robertas Beinaris and a bass soloist from the Lithuanian National Opera, Liudas Norvaisa. Both performances attracted a large audience. Former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and his wife Alma attended the concert in Vilnius. In the program Virginijus included the music of J.S. Bach, J.L Krebs, G. Verdi, L. Vierne, and other classical pieces and works by Lithuanian composers such as Juzeliunas’ “Concerto for the Organ”, as well as a piece specially composed for the festival by V. Striaupaite-Beinariene, Sonata “Sugrizimas,” for the organ and oboe. For more information visit: http://www.lrytas.lt/?data=20120517&id=kul17tvp120517&view=2
